The Presidents of the P5 are adamantly against the 8 team playoff. Reason
is that would make the Conference Championship game almost irrelevant. TV and attendance would go way down. WADR that's just not happening. Look for the P5 to become the P4 and now your 8 team playoff starts with the Conference Championship game. Yes ND will have to join to get to the NC one day. However, expect 4 divisions in a conference so they can keep their national schedule, which is really their strength...not semi-independence.
As far as the G5 this has happened before and it worked out great. In 1978 the JMU's, Richmond's and William Mary's broke off from the FBS to play FCS. Since then JMU has two National Championships, Richmond 1 and William and Mary hosted a Final 4, with JMU. They have all expanded or built new stadiums. They all have record alums coming to games and contributing. The same will happen with the G5. They will get stronger and not weaker. More TV time and money. More compelling games and they will get their occasional shot during the regular season to beat the P4.
It looks like you are new to the board, if so welcome. Those that have followed my post for years know that I have been saying this since 2003 when at first I thought VT was not going into the ACC. Let's just say I dug deep into the situation so that I knew what path VT had to make to be included, that started with finding out where Conference Realignment was going in the long run. I see nothing in almost 15 years that would tell me that long term direction has changed.
